D&W FRESH MARKETS, FAMILY FARE AND FELPAUSCH
IN MICHIGAN JOIN FORCES WITH THE SALVATION ARMY TO AID HAITI RELIEF EFFORTS

Grand Rapids, MI, January 15, 2010 – D&W Fresh Markets, Family Fare and Felpausch Supermarkets in Michigan are once again welcoming the traditional Red Kettles now through January 24 in support of The Salvation Army’s efforts to assist with the international relief effort in Haiti following a severe earthquake.

“D&W Fresh Markets, Family Fare and Felpausch have a longstanding relationship with the Salvation Army, hosting bell ringers year after year in order to raise funds for families in need of assistance during the Christmas season. Although Christmas is eleven months away, the Red Kettles will once again be a welcome sight at area D&W Fresh Market, Family Fare and Felpausch supermarkets. D&W Fresh Markets, Family Fare and Felpausch are pleased to be a partner in the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign to do what we can to help address this crisis in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Haiti,” said Jeanne Norcross, Vice President Corporate Affairs, Spartan Stores. “We want to do our part to help our neighbors in need – whether they are a half block or a half continent away,” Norcross said.

Other Spartan Stores relief efforts include employee contributions throughout its retail stores, including Glen’s Markets in Northern Michigan and VG’s in eastern Michigan, as well as Spartan’s office, warehouses and transportation.

The Salvation Army has had a presence in Haiti since 1950 and currently operates schools, clinics, a hospital, feeding programs, children’s homes and church-related activities spread across two major facilities in Port au Prince, close to the epicenter of the earthquake and at other locations in the country.

“Our prayers are with the people of Haiti during the aftermath of this devastating earthquake as well as with our Salvation Army officers and employees throughout the country,” said Major Ralph Buckiewicz, Divisional Commander for Western Michigan and Northern Indiana. “Rest assured, you will find The Salvation Army is once again on the front lines helping those in need without hesitation, without discrimination and without fail,” he added.

The Salvation Army Earthquake Relief for Haiti Campaign will initially focus on monetary donations. These donations will help stimulate local economies by allowing the purchase of preliminary supplies and materials directly from Haitian businesses. It will also allow The Salvation Army and other relief organizations to make timely acquisitions of necessary supplies and materials on an as-needed basis.

The Salvation Army is accepting monetary donations to assist in the effort via, www.salvationarmyusa.org, 1-800-SAL-ARMY and postal mail at: The Salvation Army World Service Office, International Disaster Relief Fund, PO Box 630728, Baltimore, MD 21263-0728.
